All of these are the Artifacts, coming from the healing place of the soul. May their beneficial power burn inside you.” - Nathan Daems

This International Jazz Day, we’re taking your perception of jazz by the throat, deconstructing, reshaping, transcending and transforming it to redefine your entire perception of the genre. Together with two amazing regional bands this night will make your head spin, your toe tap and your brain question “what is this? Jazz?“. To celebrate Jazz’s multi-genre, multi-cultural roots we’re crossing borders with Maastricht Jazz Award winner Evacuation Plan’s reggae-rock-jazz, and Belgium’s eclectic, electric, ethio-inspired Black Flower.

Black Flower

Line-up Black Flower
Nathan Daems (sax, washint, ney, kaval, flute, composition)
John Birdsong (cornet, cornetto, sea shells)
Filip Vandebril (Bass)
Wouter Haest (Organ, clavinet)

Evacuation Plan

Line-up Evacuation Plan:
Taejung Kim – Guitar, synth, compositions
Robin Rebetez – Tenor and soprano saxophone
Wolf van Gemert – Electric bass
John Wolter – Drums

Black Flower:

Join Nathan Daems and his band on an expedition in which Eastern influences, Ethiodub and jazz criss-cross each other effortlessly, spiralling into a whirlwind of movement and sounds. Black Flower’s musical foundations were laid down by the fathers of ethio-jazz and afrobeat Mulata Astatke and Fela Kuti’s. However, they combine this with western music traditions, and broad swath of other influences to produce a sound which is both recognizable and entirely their own.

Evacuation Plan:

Taejung Kim and his band – Evacuation Plan take modern jazz, reggae, latin, punk and rock, take them to pieces, smash them together, squeeze them out and condense them all into a single shot of pure musical energy. The band is an equally diverse collection of musicians from different corners of the globe. Their unlikely combination has proved highly successful: opening for Antoine Pierre at Verviers Jazz, playing at numerous festivals around the country, and earning both the Professional and the Audience Awards at the Maastricht Jazz Awards!
