Dúo Marévia
Klassiek op Zondag

Dúo Marévia is formed by saxophonist João Rodrigues (PT) and pianist María del Mar Moreno Raya (ES). The ensemble was established in September when both musicians met at Conservatorium Maastricht, where they currently study. It is with ambition, effort, and consistency that Dúo Marévia aims to outspread a huge variety of chamber music repertoire including not only original works for saxophone and piano, as well as transcriptions of pieces originally written for other instruments.
At the moment, both musicians are looking to broaden their repertoire by working on different kinds of musical genres, from late-romantic repertoire to the most modern side of classical music. As a young and motivated group, both members find it also interesting to disseminate works from composition students and young professional composers, in order to contribute to their musical career and to develop and enlarge the original repertoire for saxophone and piano. For the purpose of keeping their ambitious mindset and to achieve the personal challenges both musicians set for themselves, the Dúo has participated in several competitions across Europe (XVIII Arnuero International Chamber Music, ES; VIII International Competition Victor Santos, PT; Kamermuziek Concours Gelre, NL) and continues to do so.
The Dúo studies at Conservatorium Maastricht. João recently graduated with his degree in classical saxophone performance and María del Mar is studying her second year of master in piano accompaniment. Both members of the group are coached regularly by Jean-Pierre Cnoops and Jeroen Riemsdijk.
