Heinrich Schütz composed a moving requiem mass that fits beautifully into the All Souls' Day tradition. These three-part "exequien", or funeral ceremonies were written for the funeral of the respected Count Heinrich "Posthumus" Reuss.
This progressive and art-loving landowner was known for choosing the members of his royal household mainly on their musical qualities. All in all, a very suitable work for the singers of the Nederlandse Bachvereniging, who are accompanied by a richly occupied continuo.
