Side by Side
Orkest van de Achttiende Eeuw en Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag
In 2014, Frans Brüggen conducted his own Orkest van de Achttiende Eeuw with - for the first time - a student from the Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag who played alongside each orchestra member. Something unique arose: a transfer of musical knowledge and inspiration across the entire breadth of the orchestra. Since then, Side by Side has guaranteed a unique experience for musicians and audience every year.
Sigiswald Kuijken, one of the celebrated grandmasters of the early music movement for decades, leads the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century and musicians from the Early Music Department of the Royal Conservatory of The Hague in a program entirely devoted to Joseph Haydn. Symphony No. 26, "Lamentatione", written for Holy Week, is followed by the imposing Die Sieben letzten Worte unseres Erlösers am Kreuze in the instrumental version for orchestra.
An impressive program, by an impressive combination of the seasoned members of the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century, shoulder to shoulder with the very best musicians of the Royal Conservatoire.
