The play between
The first NDT 2 program of the season The play between presents two new voices to Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT) that are idiosyncratic storytellers in their own right who will both present two new world premieres. NDT is very excited to add their unique perspectives on dance to its roster of creators.
Marcos Morau (Catalonia) presents Folkå, a work about the transformative rituals in folklore and native customs. Morau’s moving work feels like a collective power that, through means of a mythical trip, takes us through the human psyche, where he combines dance, costumes and theatre in the most fantastical and ambitious way. The choreographer likes to be influenced by visual arts and historical references from which he creates a new story-telling language, often with absurd and theatrical elements. Besides his own work, in 2005 Morau and fellow artists created the interdisciplinary group La Veronal, who created works using cutting edge dance, film, literature and photography.
For his work Bedtime story, Nadav Zelner (Israël) invites us to his fantasy world. Through his fresh, enchanting and lightning fast vocabulary, Bedtime story is a moving embodiment of the searching dreamer within all of us. Zelner is a freelance dancer and daring choreographer who is conquering the contemporary dance world. His vocubulary is influenced by popular culture that leads to esthetic works which often go along with unexpected musical choices from a fresh, provocative perspective. Zelner was a member of the Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company and danced in several international dance projects. As choreographer he created works for, among others, the Gauthier Dance Company and the Batsheva Dance Company.
