Stephen Shropshire
Want is the Wick

Throughout history dance has accompanied all sorts of religious rituals and cultural rites. It has been used as an instrument of prayer to express both divine worship and human festivity. In Want is the Wick Shropshire investigates this phenomenon though his own movement language, exploring the potential of dance and the material body as a channel for the immaterial. To a score of prayer and worship music from all around the world, Shropshire thoughtfully aligns the known with the unknown.

‘Shropshire is the intelligent aesthete, making dance that is both pleasant to see and ensuring that every movement has the purest possible expressiveness’.
