Man Ray

Taiat Dansa’s Man Ray focuses on the photographer’s fetishistic relationship with his muses, and, therefore, on all relationships between male artists and their female models. Sometimes they inspire, at others they are simply objects.

The relationships are extreme, especially those between the Surrealist artists, with a certain degree of manipulation of women’s images and bodies and their sexuality throughout the history of art. In this piece Man Ray is multiplied; all his identities appear obsessively and reflect a structure of reality as dictated by men. By their rules, their cameras. By their photographic eyes.

Meritxell Barberá and Inma García founded their own company Taiat Dansa (Valencia, Spain) in the year 2003. Their work is inspired by new the possibilities of dance and the body. Their pieces are constructed in a way that is closer to a cinematographic discourse than to theatrical parameters. The music is also another vital element in their choreographies. From the beginning in 2003 they work closely together with the musician Caldo, who is also responsible for the music in Man Ray.

Man Ray is a coproductie between Barcelona Grec Festival 2017, Institut Valencià de Cultura, Ballet de la Generalitat, Taiat Dansa and Sagunt a Escena 2017.
