The Red Circles
Boekpresentatie Joost Vrouenraets & David Peskens

Choreographer Joost Vrouenets and photographer David Peskens reduced the idea of ‘stage’ to a minimum. A stage that is accessible to the widest possible audience and that also makes the social context, the landscape and its audience inclusive. With red ropes, they lay two circles in the public space in which the dancer dances and merges into the landscape, inextricably linked with the space around him.
The circles translate the safety measure to prevent the spread of the corona virus: the 1.5 meters distance. The distance from the center to the first circle is 1.5 meters. Distance between the two circles is also 1.5 meters. The total area of these two circles is π3² = 28.27 m2; the minimum surface that we must have in order to be able to move freely, taking into account the health for yourself and another.
This performance by Joost Vrouenraets throughout the Netherlands, in the city and in nature, was captured by photographer David Peskens. Text and images are subsequently bundled in the book The Red Circles.
