During the Nederlandse Dansdagen, Introdans presents Tutti: two absolute audience favourites as a jubilee gift. The company is celebrating its 50th jubilee, a golden anniversary, with all the dancers in ballets by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Mauro Bigonzetti, also featuring the fantastic singers of A Filetta and Assurd.
Cantata
Earthy, raw and passionate: that’s how you could best describe the dance in Mauro Bigonzetti’s Cantata. In this rousing, high-energy piece the choreograph brings to life a range of characters from an Italian village – inspired by the captivating and sometimes abrasive music of women’s folk group Assurd, featuring Enza Pagliara. Men and women vie with each other in powerful ensemble dances, with legs scything in all directions and torsos shaking wildly. It’s hard to remain unmoved by this exuberant ode to Italian folk culture, to love, and perhaps above all to madness. Cantata invariably receives standing ovations.
In Memoriam
Motivated by a number of deaths in his family, the universally praised Flemish-Moroccan choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui created this work as a homage to his ancestors. The relationship between reality and memory forms the core of In Memoriam. In an imaginary underworld, the dancers explore polarising forces such as attraction and rejection, tenderness and aggression and in doing so examine meaning of ‘harmony’. The result is both serene and hallucinatory. Other crucial elements in this total stage experience are the music of the polyphone ensemble A Filetta and the video images of Gilles Delmas.
“In Memoriam is a rock-solid choreography that fascinates from start to end, and which is brought to life by Introdans in a more than convincing manner.”
De Gelderlander
“…the dance seems pure, spontaneous and exuberant but under the surface there’s great refinement.”
