An adult fairytale full of sex and humor: the Reisopera puts a modern spin on Smetana's comical opera Die verkaufte Braut! The opera is sung in a brand new, Dutch version, with Dutch and English surtitling. This makes Bruid Te Koop! (Bride For Sale!) lose its folkloristic feeling and gives it a chance to be rediscovered as one of the most succesful comical pieces in the opera repertoire.
The story almost cannot be more simplistic. The girl Marenka is in love with the poor, but handsome Jenik. All of the sudden, the old marriage matchmaker Micha Kezal visits her parents. He shows them an almost forgotten contract, in which Marenka's father promises Marenka's hand in marriage to Micha's son, in return for a large sum of money. If father Kruschina breaches contract, he will have to repay all of the money. Will Marenka accept this fact?
