Inleiding Giulio Cesare

Nederlandse Reisopera - Giulio Cesare in Egitto

Where love rules, there is no will for power.

In this spectacular baroque opera from director/ conductor George Petrou, main character Julius Caesar (Giulio Cesare) is an adventurer from the 20s of the last century. He is, as many archeologists during that time period, looking for a pharaoh’s tomb when he suddenly stumbles upon an appearance of Cleopatra. Is she a ghost, a mummy?

George Petrou states about his creation: ‘It’s an adventure!’. Baroque operas are known to be spectacular pieces, and this version will prove it by being even more of a spectacle. Décor pieces and costumes show a mix of ancient Egypt and the Roaring Twenties. Petrou directs and conducts this production: an unusual combination, for which the Reisopera has purposely chosen baroque expert George Petrou.
