Black Flower (BE)
The Pop-up Jazzclub
There is a certain swirling and boiling energy in contemporary Belgian jazz. Black Flower is one of the star performers and perhaps our southern neighbour's best jazz band.
Uplifting rhythms and melodies with Eastern and Ethiopian influences serve as a rich source of playing pleasure, becoming real and solid like lava as they make their way to the surface. It is the perfect metaphor for the creation process of the bands latest album Magma. New synth and organ sounds, modular effects on the drums and the use of different types of flutes add to the psychedelic world the band manages to create. 'Turkish, African and Western jazz all have a part to play in this wondrous and compelling musical adventure that is Magma,' says de Volkskrant.
