Maastricht's own jazz club: The Pop-up Jazzclub. A unique place where jazz musicians and listeners meet for an intimate musical experience. Once a month, Jazz Maastricht, in collaboration with Theater aan het Vrijthof, transforms the foyer and theatre hall of Kumulus into a real jazz club.
The Artvark Saxophone Quartet meanders through musical traditions, sometimes at the intersection of classical and jazz, but always soulful and with blues, swaying across the stage in improvised choreography, always searching for new music and new sounds.
They have played at countless major national and international jazz festivals and venues, but have also found their way to the classical stage, without losing sight of their unique sense of humour.
Inspired by composers such as Béla Bartók and Charles Mingus, the group presents their album, Four Fathers – the long-awaited sequel to Mother of Thousand and the second chapter of their trilogy, once again featuring the rare slide saxophones. Artvark creates the ultimate soundtrack without a film, in which the melancholy of the blues is never far away.
'I think that I never heard so beautiful - and hip - a sax quartet!’
– Marilyn Mazur (Drummer, composer, bandleader - Marilyn Mazur Group, Jan Garbarek Group, Miles Davis)
