Dutch Classical Talent - Gerbrich Meijer

A recital as a "one-woman show"? Clarinetist Gerbrich Meijer dares to do it and plays with the conventions of the classical recital. Works by Bernstein, Poulenc and Samuelsen, among others, illustrate her recitation of music and life and well-being of the composers, complete with images and interaction with the audience. An altogether surprising concert.

In addition to interesting chamber music works for clarinet by Poulenc, Bernstein and Samuelsen, Gerbrich Meijer will also play a new work by the young Dutch composer Gijs van der Heijden. His music fits into the category of contemporary classical, but he always provides a surprise somewhere, a strange sound, a sudden melody. Music that keeps the mind sharp.

Gerbrich Meijer was already a clarinetist with the European Youth Orchestra at the age of 17. She was nominated for the Grachtenfestival Prize 2022 and won the "Special Prize" at the Carl Nielsen International Competition 2022. From the DCT jury report: 'With her open and appealing personality and warm tone, she winds everyone around her finger. Her inventive program is all about interaction and communication with the audience. You remain curious about what is to come!'

Dutch Classical Talent as a talent programme, is a household name in the Dutch classical music world. The laureates of Dutch Classical Talent include names such as Tania Kross, Lavinia Meijer, Nora Fischer, Van Baerle Trio and the Berlage Saxophone Quartet. Through auditions, a professional jury chooses four top talents. These four young musicians will develop in a coaching programme and tour the 12 biggest concert halls in the Netherlands to put their names on the map. Their programmes are thought-provoking, topical, moving and spectacular.

This concert is part of the series de Zondagklassiekers.
