Views from Dutch Trains is an inspiring musical project that highlights the social and ecological impact of train travel in the Netherlands. Organized by Mallet Collective, this project combines the power of music with the message of sustainable mobility. Through the recording of a CD featuring new Dutch compositions, the project translates the experience of train travel into a musical journey that calls for a more environmentally conscious lifestyle.
Train travel is not only a way to get around, but also a reflection of the beauty of the Dutch landscape, the rhythm of daily life, and the urgent need to reduce our ecological footprint. These compositions bring the listener closer to the experience of train travel—from the tranquility of rolling meadows to the liveliness of urban stations. The project invites us to reflect on the role of train travel as an environmentally friendly alternative to car and air travel, and how it contributes to a more sustainable future.
Each piece of music reflects different aspects of the train experience and evokes images of the contrasts and similarities we encounter during our travels. This musical journey takes listeners on a trip full of emotions, rhythms, and reflections on the landscape and our choices.
‘In a dreamy, passing landscape of sound that becomes increasingly complex, the pulse remains addictive.’
