Lucas & Arthur Jussen

Together with Servé Hermans and Jaco Kaasschieter, Theater aan het Vrijthof presents musical spectacle Carmina Burana in MECC Maastricht. Carl Orff's masterpiece has been performed many times in different ways, but never in the way it will be seen in 2025 with Lucas & Arthur Jussen at the grand piano. 

Producers Servé Hermans and Jaco Kaasschieter feel honoured. ‘Lucas and Arthur Jussen are among the absolute world's top piano virtuosos,’ says Servé Hermans. ‘Even more special is that they want to perform the Carmina Burana in a special form at the MECC, one of the most famous compositions in recent music history.’ 'Nowadays we know the piece mainly in the version with large orchestra. But the brothers are bringing back Carmina Burana in its original form, with two grand pianos at its centre,' says producer Jaco Kaasschieter. Lucas & Arthur Jussen play the lead role in a unique setting where the audience is seated around the performers, in a special experience with a large choir, six percussionists, a host of top international soloists and a special children's choir, from various districts of Maastricht.

‘This is a personal project for us,’ Lucas and Arthur Jussen reveal. 'We travel all over the world but Maastricht feels like home to us. Our grandparents live here and our parents were born in this city. That makes it extra special for us to be allowed to develop a project in Maastricht. An event with great public ambitions and with the intention of returning every year. But where, like everything we do, quality will be leading.'
