Brahms' Symfonische Big Bang
Philzuid

With his First Symphony, Johannes Brahms definitively established his name as a composer. The work builds on Beethoven's legacy, with a monumental structure, grand melodies and a compelling finale.
This symphonic performance is a dream job for guest conductor Samy Rachid. The Frenchman is gaining a lot of experience as assistant conductor to top Boston Symphony Orchestra conductor Andris Nelsons. In this programme, globally acclaimed French pianist Lise de la Salle pays tribute to Beethoven, Brahms' great hero, by performing his Fourth Piano Concerto. This intimate, lyrical work has a poetic, almost dreamy atmosphere and is loved for its refined dialogue between soloist and orchestra. As a surprising addition, Fate Now Conquers by young contemporary composer Carlos Simon will be heard. With a GRAMMY nomination in his pocket, he took his inspiration for this work from Beethoven's 1815 diary: ‘Fate Now Conquers.’ A powerful and dynamic work that further enhances the tension and emotion of this programme.
