Gershwin & Passenier: An American in Paris & Fight for Light
VU-Orkest

An American in Paris is George Gershwin's brilliant impression of his visit to Paris. This is followed by Fight for Light by Maastricht composer Jesse Passenier. His award-winning album features two jazz soloists performing with the symphony orchestra, who are required to improvise in part. With Piano Concerto No. 1 “Levensdrift”, Passenier aims to inspire. Layered big band-like harmonies and rousing rhythms are combined with late Romantic influences. Then Vibraphone & Marimba Concerto No. 1 “Becoming the Colour” puts the clear, sometimes warm vibraphone and the woody sound of the marimba in the spotlight. During this concert, the students of the VU Orchestra will have ample opportunity to demonstrate their passion and musicality.
