Supertalent Laura van der Heijden
Philzuid
Cellist Laura van der Heijden is a classical superstar among our English neighbors and far beyond. Born in Great Britain, Van der Heijden owes her Dutch name to her father. Her great talent was quickly recognized. At the age of fifteen, she was crowned BBC Young Musician of the Year. “She displays a magnetic, uncompromising dedication,” NRC praised her playing.
Van der Heijden is now a special guest at Philzuid for an unmissable performance of Walton's Cello Concerto. On her latest, critically acclaimed CD, Van der Heijden plays this breathtaking cello concerto with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. In his favorite concerto, Walton expresses his deep longing for eternal love. Equally romantic is Tchaikovsky's fabulous Sixth Symphony, ‘Pathétique’. Reason enough for chief conductor Duncan Ward to tackle Tchaikovsky's emotionally charged final symphony together with Philzuid.
