Het Nationale Ballet: Junior Company

It is not only the young, sparkling dance talents who have made the Dutch National Ballet's Junior Company such a success. The young choreographers that the group attracts also create an exciting buzz. With three world premieres, Ballet Beats shows the beating heart of the ballet of the future. Complemented by a vibrant, brilliant classic.

From breakdancer at Boys Action, Dutchman Joshua Junker developed into a dancer and choreographer with the British Royal Ballet. His debut with the Junior Company in 2023 was awarded the Encouragement Prize by Dansersfonds '79. Junker will incorporate influences from hip hop into his new creation.

Cuban-British Arielle Smith Jones is only 25 years old, but already has a prestigious Olivier Award to her name. She comes from the modern dance scene and often mixes dance, theater, and film in her idiosyncratic creations. She is making her Dutch debut with a new work.

With a background in African dance and ballet, South African Mthuthuzeli November is considered a striking new ‘voice’ in the international ballet world. He also won an Olivier Award. Since last year, he has been Artistic Associate at the National Ballet Academy.

George Balanchine's Allegro Brillante is one of the most vibrant, light-footed, yet no less challenging works by the most important (neo)classical choreographer of the twentieth century. He himself said that 'it contains everything I know about ballet, but condensed into thirteen minutes.'
