An uncontrollable urge dominates the dancers. An urge for satisfaction – physical or mental. They are torn between charm, sensuality, lust, carnality, fame, success, reflection, control and tranquillity. Following their urges, controlling their urges. Bodies in a trance. There is no confrontation or rivalry, no story is told, there is no solution, no ending.
Choreographer Ann Van den Broek (Ward/waRD) created Co(te)lette in 2007. The original performance was awarded the Zwaan for the most impressive dance production of the season. The work is being revived at a time when women's emancipation is stagnating and the right to express one's sexuality and physicality is being undermined.
