Het Nationale Ballet | Hans van Manen
Déjà vu
‘Déjà vu’. Those words appeared in a number of reviews of Hans van Manen’s ballets in the early 1990s. However much praise there was for the work of the master choreographer, according to some writers he was repeating himself too much. The criticism did not fall on deaf ears: Van Manen struck back mercilessly with a sublime and virtuoso duet in which he captured the essence of human relationships in dance with razor-sharp precision. In just twelve minutes, he sketches a breathtaking tension between power struggle and intimate connection.
Introdans | Lucinda Childs
Canto Ostinato
American choreographer Lucinda Childs is often referred to as the queen of minimalist dance. She turned 85 this year, and Introdans celebrated her birthday in style last spring with the focus programme ICOON, a tribute to this grand lady of American dance. Childs' movement language is completely unique: in an abstract, almost mathematical way, she creates the most complex masterpieces using relatively simple ballet and athletic movements. Her work demands the utmost from the dancers, who dance to the maximum to minimal music. For the audience, Canto Ostinato has a meditative effect.
Introdans | Adriaan Luteijn
Iungo
'Iungo' is the Latin word for “I bring together / I connect”, and that is exactly what choreographer Adriaan Luteijn does better than anyone else. In his series De Ontmoeting (The Encounter) – of which Iungo is a part – he has been bringing people from different physical, social and cultural backgrounds together with academically trained professional modern dancers for more than 25 years with Introdans. The aim is to show that dance is for everyone and that even dancers who do not fit the standard mould can deeply move and amaze their audience. In this edition of Iungo, dancers from Introdans meet two guest dancers who each excel in their own way: presenter-writer Eva Eikhout and Ugandan modern dancer Joseph Tebandeke.
Zero Dance Theatre | Denden Karadeniz
Oasis
In this compelling dance performance, choreographer and dancer Denden Karadeniz invites the audience to reflect on their own oasis. Where do you find peace in this world and where can you truly be yourself? This exciting experience poses essential questions in a time of increasing social complexity, translated through a unique mix of diverse dance styles and backgrounds that come together in a highly physical movement idiom. Your own oasis is an important place, because the freedom to express yourself in today's world seems to be becoming increasingly challenging. In an era where constant connectivity often leads to division and individualism, we sometimes find ourselves at odds with one another. Every person is unique, yet we all long to be ourselves in a safe and nurturing environment.
