Following Kadrage (Framing) and DEEG (DOUGH), Peter Vandemeulebroecke and Jef Van gestel are using a dozen fans to create Tochtgat (Blowman's land): visual theatre like a moving painting whose frames are blown away.
A world blows past. Wandering through a landscape of dancing bits of material, plastic bags and floating cubes are two endearing figures, who lost the battle against the wind long ago, but will not give in. How do we relate to something that is productive, yet destructive at the same time?
Tochtgat plays with the aesthetics of draped fabrics on paintings by Rubens, the familiar humour of slapstick and the impact of life-sized modern works of art.
About Jef Van gestel & Peter Vandemeulebroecke
The theatre work of Jef Van gestel & Peter Vandemeulebroecke resembles a mental playground. Brimming with absurd humour, alienating poetry and unbridled fantasy, their productions on the intersection of mime, performance, visual art and physical expressive theatre push the boundaries.
