Iberia

Componistendag

Radiant sunshine, a wonderfully spirited folk, rousing dancing and overwhelming natural beauty. On the Iberian Peninsula, it all comes together. The music of Spanish and Portuguese tone poets is truly bursting at the seams with “duende”, or spiritual inspiration. For one day, Philzuid and Theater aan het Vrijthof immerse you in the abundant history of Iberian music.

From exuberant orchestral music to tender sound poetry for smaller ensembles. Of course, the music of a big name like Manuel de Falla is not missing. But Philzuid also unravels one of the great masterpieces, Iberia, by Isaac Albéniz

A day of the finest music from Spanish and Portuguese soil

Special guest is Polish soprano Monika Buczkowska-Ward. This lauded soloist is at home in opera houses as well as on concert stages. With her rich timbre, she performs passionate arias by Joaquin Turina and Manuel De Falla.

The Componistendag is a co-production of Theater aan het Vrijthof and Philzuid.
