Virtual Residencies

James Parnell | Sky Punch Collective | Yoko Haverman - Virtual Residencies

During Nederlandse Dansdagen, you experience dance both live on stage in Maastricht and online. This year's online programme includes three brand-new Visual Residencies.

The creators selected for this year's festival edition are:
•    Yoko Haveman (Dansateliers)
•    James Parnell (Korzo)
•    Skypunch Collective (DansBrabant)

All three makers and their Virtual Residency works will be presented during a live event online. Enjoy this unique opportunity to get a glimpse into their creative process and to engage in conversation with the artists.

About the Virtual Residencies
The Virtual Residencies creators work on projects with a key role for digital media. This may include the use of film, motion capture, or digital avatars in combination with dance. Nederlandse Dansdagen offers a unique behind-the-scenes look at their artistic process. Virtual Residencies are not finished works, but works-in-progress — curious, experimental, and constantly evolving.

Nederlandse Dansdagen collaborates with three key organisations in the field of dance talent development: Dansateliers, Korzo, and DansBrabant.

Virtual Residencies 2025

Dansateliers

Yoko Haveman is an interdisciplinary maker: choreographer, performer, and director working across both theatre and film. Yoko creates sensorial experiences in which the body becomes an integral part of the narrative. During her Virtual Residency, Yoko offers an in-depth look into the research process around the visual components of a tribute to everything that breaks. Central to this is the development of a virtual projection: a 2D/3D animated female figure that moves synchronously and disruptively in relation to Yoko's body and choreography.

Korzo

James Parnell is a The Hague-based curator, facilitator and dancer who focuses on community building, collective learning, and the conflicts that arise in these practices. For his Virtual Residency, James will design an ‘interactive fiction game’ inspired by his choreography Hold Me Closer, which he created earlier this year for the CaDance Festival 2025. In this experience, the online player not only determines the course of the story but also shapes the final choreography.

Dansbrabant

SKYPUNCH COLLECTIVE is a multidisciplinary performance collective, co-founded and driven by Celine Werkhoven and Anna Zurkirchen. With strong roots in the language of dance, the Collective explore mixtures of movement, sound, visual art and scenography. During their Virtual Residency, SKYPUNCH COLLECTIVE will explore a virtual space in which bodies inhabit and transcend both their own and each other's space. By superimposing images, the figures move past the restriction of time and space, creating a radical intimacy that dissolves the physical borders of the body.
