A maverick is someone who thinks and acts in a completely independent, unorthodox way — always different norms and expectations. There are some impressive examples of this in the world of Dutch dance. Are they the forerunners of new developments? Maybe. Nonetheless, there is much to enjoy in their work, which follows only its own logic.

Liam McCall
Liam McCall appeared twice during Nederlandse Dansdagen: he was nominated for a prestigious Zwaan for most impressive dance performance and he presented the then new performance Refraction [breaking light]. This year he returns with another duet, pparrallell, created for Next Steps, the acclaimed collaboration between ISH Dance Collective and Het Nationale Ballet. pparrallell is a duet where Liam’s maverick spirit easily bridges diverse dance styles such as ballet and hip hop.
Polina Skarga & Maxim KuznetsovPolina Skarga & Maxim Kuznetsov
The second part features new work by Polina Skarga, finalist of the Open Your Mind battle 2022 and 2023, and Maxim Kuznetsov, winner of the Open Your Mind battle 2024. Last year, Polina also participated in the revival of Marina Abramović’s performances at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.
The final part of the Maverick programme will be announced at a later date.
