Theatre visit

Here you will find information about your visit to the theatre. If you have a question that we have not answered here, please contact the UITbalie.

What is the best way to get to the theatre?
Theater aan het Vrijthof is located in the city centre. For all the latest information about accessibility and parking options in Maastricht, visit maastrichtbereikbaar.nl.

There is an introduction to my performance. What does this mean?
For many theatre, dance and opera performances, you can attend a free introduction, during which directors or choreographers share their views on the performance and the creative process. An introduction usually starts one hour before the performance; check the website or the service email for the exact time. Mind: introductions will often be in Dutch. If there is an English introduction, this will always be mentioned on the performance page.

Are there facilities for visitors with health conditions/impairments or visitors with hearing/visual impairments?
Various facilities are available in the theatre, such as wheelchair spaces, hearing aids and (for a limit number of performances) live audio description in collaboration with Stichting Komt Het Zien! For more information, please check our Accessibility page or contact the UITbalie for assistance.

Do I need to print my e-tickets for my theatre visit?
This is not necessary. You can have the e-tickets scanned on your smartphone. Make sure that the barcode is clearly legible.

Is there a cloakroom in the theatre?
There is a free (supervised) cloakroom in the basement of the theatre. Use of the cloakroom is at your own risk. The cloakroom is open until half an hour after the end of the performance.

Is hearing protection available?
During concerts, free earplugs are available at the Service Desk. You are also welcome to bring your own earplugs.

I am late for the performance. What should I do?
We would like the performance to start on time. Once it has started, we cannot guarantee access to the performance. In consultation with our staff, we will assess whether and when it is still possible to enter the auditorium.

How do I pay at the theatre?
We prefer contactless payment because it reduces queues and speeds up service. Cash payment is of course still possible.

What does “including interval drink” mean?
For almost all performances at Theater aan het Vrijthof, AINSI theatre and Kumulus Theatre, a beverage (coffee, tea, beer, soft drinks and wine) is included in the ticket price. Your ticket will indicate whether the performance includes a beverage. If there is no interval during the performance, you will receive your beverage afterwards.

For family and youth performances, we also provide a beverage (i.e. lemonade) for the children during the interval or after the performance.

May I take photos and/or videos during the performance?
Due to copyright restrictions and in order to make the experience in our theatres as pleasant as possible for everyone, we ask that you refrain from taking photos, videos or audio recordings during the performance. If you wish to take a photo or video, please do so only during the final applause. Even if the company or artist themselves indicate that they have no problem with the use of smartphones in the auditorium, please be considerate of the visitors around you who may find this disruptive.

I have lost something in the theatre. What should I do?
If you have lost or forgotten something in the theatre, please contact the Facilities Department.

Check out all the house rules here before you visit the theatre.
